Melanocyte transplants as well as suction blister grafting procedures are performed under local anesthesia and are outpatient procedures.

  • Melanocyte transplantation procedure involves harvesting melanocytes from healthy areas of the skin which are then grown in a special cell culture solution. The multiplied melanocytes are transplanted to the damaged area of skin.
  • In Suction Blister grafting procedure, heat, suction, or freezing cold are utilized to create blisters on the pigmented area of skin. The roofs of these blisters are cut out and transplanted to the de-pigmented area of skin.
  • Both Melanocyte transplantation and suction blister grafting procedures are outpatient procedures. And you can return to work the very next day.
  • You can observe pigmentation within 3 to 4 months and the final results within 5-6 months.
  • Do not get the bandage wet.

Your Vitiligo should be in a stable condition for you to be a suitable candidate for Melanocyte transplantation or Suction blister grafting.
